JOME MOUNTAINS

Another piece of watercolour cover art, another sensitive indie-pop track from Los Angeles duo JOME. Originally the project of songwriter Jessie Marc who self-released his debut ‘Brushstroke’ less than a year ago, it quickly attracted the attention of New Orleans producer Christoph Andersson with the offer of collaboration. Since then, JOME has been a duo recording their organic electronica in the forests of Northern California. ‘Mountains’ is the fourth track this pair have shared and you can’t help but be instantly drawn in by unusual electronics that seem to mimic sounds of nature. The affect is furthered with the lead vocal, expressing elation and remorse through a careful handling of smooth pop melodies and rough edged, almost cracking crescendos. As for the meaning, JOME explain that "It's a song about finally achieving your goals and the feeling that comes along with these moments. It's also a reminder to not take things for granted and to appreciate how far you've come, because it's so easy to forget where you started." It’s certainly pop, but fuelled by genuine feeling and detailed production; an enticing first track from their upcoming debut EP, Tunnels. - HT
